Chile SUBTEL telecom Regulatory Compliance
Subtel Resolution 755, 2005, modified by Resolution 840, 2007 is the latest in a series of updates to its main telecommunications Resolution 144.
There is also a new Resolution 403, 2008 which established safety requirements for telecom devices generating radio emissions. This refers to maximum Field Intensity or Power Density Limit, and compliance has to be demonstrated.
Homologation (testing of a sample by a local Lab) is required for equipment that is to be connected to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and that fall in some of the following categories:
Type of devices:
- Analog telephones
- Analog multiline telephones
- Automatic dialing machines
- Modems
- Fax machines
- Automatic answering machines
- Automatic private exchanges
- Devices used to measure telephone traffic
A new homologation procedure for telephones and other devices will also be issued.
5GHz radiofrequency RF approval with SUBTEL
In addition to the 2.4GHz (2,400-2,483.5) and top of the 5GHz (5,725-5,850) frequency bands, Subtel has opened up the rest of the 5GHz frequency bands for use by restricted radiation/low power devices. Maximum radiated power was also increased to 100mW for all 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands, up from a previous 50mW limit. Other restrictions for use of 5GHz frequencies have been declared.
Manufacturers of any devices that operate in these frequency bands shall obtain a certificate from the Undersecretary of Telecommunications ("Subtel") stating that the devices comply with the technical requirements indicated in the most recent published Resolutions.
Additional updated regulations and restrictions for cordless telephones, remote radio controls, and other equipment have been presented in Subtel's new Resolutions.
