The Regulating Agency (SUBTEL) in Chile recently amended Resolution No. 1985 of 2017 to revise the certification requirements for Short Range Devices (SRD) in Chile under Resolution 737. These changes will take effect February 2026:
- Certification Reduced to Medical Devices Only
Only specific categories, such as certain medical communication devices, now require formal certification. In particular, new medical data acquisition devices operating at low power within the 430-440 MHz band are now included in this list. - QR Code Markings Replace Certification
Most short-range equipment (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee) no longer require full certification. Instead, manufacturers or importers must:
Ensure that emissions meet regulatory standards,
Provide a test report, and
Place a compliant QR code that links to a website with detailed technical and commercial information.
3. Transparent Compliance
The QR-linked website must disclose commercial information, technical specifications, and declarations of conformity. This allows public access to the compliance status while allowing SUBTEL to conduct inspections at any time.
LARCG will offer a compliance mechanism since manufacturers can no longer obtain a SUBTEL certificate. However, they still need to comply with the technical parameters that SUBTEL publishes, which can complicate compliance if they are not aware of the regulations.
